| First project in India with use of Prestressed Concrete Cylinder Pipes (PCCP) | |
|
Prestresed Concrete Cylinder Pipes (PCCP) are generally, manufactured in conformity with IS:784/EN642. The design is based on rigid pipe theory. A thin steel cylinder is fabricated and welded with thicker steel joint rings at both the ends. The cylinder is then hydraulically tested. Afterwards cement concrete is centrifugally cast inside the cylinder, which is normally called core of the pipe. After curing of the core, high tensile wire is wound under predetermined tension around the steel cylinder, bringing the core in compression. The steel cylinder and H T Wire is then covered with rich cement mortar with high impaction process. |

PCCP makes the optimum use of concrete and steel. The composite action of steel cylinder, concrete core, H T Wire and coating thereon makes the pipe rigid and at the same time economical as compared to other metal pipes. |

The first pipeline with use of PCCP is laid for Tirupur Water Supply Scheme, Tirupur in the State of Tamilnadu. This involves manufacturing, supplying, laying, jointing and testing of 1400 mm diameter x 16 kg/cm2 factory test pressure and 1200 mm diameter x 8 kg/cm2 factory test pressure PCCP for a length of 3850 running meters and 2650 running meters respectively. |
